What can we expect on our visit?

Our friendly docents will welcome you and give you a brief overview of how to make the most of your time at the museum. Allow 20-30 minutes to see everything. We’re happy to answer questions, share tips on other historic sites to visit nearby, and even steer you to a great lunch or hiking spot in town.

Is it free to get in?

Ben Sharpsteen wanted this museum to be open to all, without a ticket price being a barrier for anyone, so admission is free. We have a suggested voluntary donation of $5 per person. As a nonprofit staffed entirely by volunteers, we rely on donations from visitors and members to keep our doors open. We’re grateful for any monetary support you feel is appropriate to your experience. Let us know if you’d like to become a member – the annual rate starts at just $25!

Can I bring my dog?

Designated service animals may accompany you in the museum, but must always be on a leash. Unfortunately, the other four-legged friends are not allowed.

Can you help me learn more about an ancestor who lived in Napa County long ago?

We’re a historical museum staffed by volunteers, yet we’re not a historical society, nor do we have a researcher on staff. For deeper ancestral exploration, we recommend contacting the Napa County Genealogical Society. If you have a story to share about family members who lived in this region, please let us know through the Contact Us form on our website, and if possible, someone will contact you.

Is the Museum available for private events?

Unfortunately, no. However, we can recommend several excellent locations in town for private events, including the Brannan Center (opening October 2025), the Calistoga Inn, Indian Springs Resort, and the Calistoga Community Center. The Calistoga Visitor Center is a great resource for private event venues. Please call them at 707-942-6333.
