This volume is filled with the history of the growth of the “mouthwatering eateries” in Napa County dating back to the 1800’s with biographical stories of how these enterprising risk takers made the Valley a “foodie haven”. Calistoga’s El Faro Rest., Magnolia Hotel, Calistoga Hotel, Groenweld’s Rest., & Silverado Creamery to name a few. Scores of photographs are found throughout this volume including one of Carole Lombard having breakfast at the Plaza Hotel during the shooting of They Knew What They Wanted in 1940. Ever wonder where Ronald Reagan announced his candidacy for Governor of California? It was 1966 at Aetna Springs Resort in Pope Valley, the photo is found on page 56. A capacity crowd turned out for Don Winter’s superb lecture last night on Napa Valley’s early days as a wellness destination. He shared lively true stories of resort pioneers like Calistoga’s Sam Brannan, Napa Soda Springs’ Co Each year as we prepare for this event, our incredible wine partners surprise and delight us with their generosity. When asked for a two bottle donation, @tedeschifamilywinery responded with six bottles of their Matriarca “Lot 25” Red win Tomorrow, 5:30pm-6:30pm at the @sharpsteenmuseum, Don Winter will share stories of the valley’s early wellness practices as seen in our current exhibit, “Destination Napa: Philosophies of Wellness.” The lecture is free, and all are Sneak peek at one of our Live Auction lots at next Saturday’s Instant Wine Cellar event:
