“Looking for the Past in Calistoga,” by author and historian Kent V. Domogalla, was first published for the Sharpsteen in 1998. It has now been updated, re-edited and includes biographies of “Calistoga Characters” such as the Badlam and Winans families, Carl Dryden Browne, Lewis Muybridge, and Lawrence B. “Buck” English (infamous stage-coach robber) to name only a few.

Beginning with a timeline of selected past events in Calistoga and forward to Sam Brannan’s entrance on the scene, Brannan’s original Hot Springs Resort of 1862 before Calistoga got its name, “As it was in Calistoga 1873”, to the history of the Chinese.

The book includes an alphabetical listing of historic properties, descriptions and locations starting at Berry St. all through town to Washington St., and of course photos, photos and more photos.

There is more, much more – a full 92 pages crammed with Calistoga history including a full index, new cover and binding. For anyone truly interested in our fine town’s past, this book is a must read. The more you read, the more you learn, the more you can brag to your friends of just how smart you are!

Softbound, 91 pages, including 4 pages index. 8-1/2” x 11”.
